This section explores examples of physical charging containers and protection devices. Note these thoughts are in addition to understanding and executing on best practices as per of resources page HERE.
An effective charging container or other protection device aims to help us across the ISOLATE and CONTAIN elements of our Action Plan.
- Even at its most basic a separate charging container is likely to help isolate the charging from secondary ignition sources simply by the discipline it instills – and even more so if it is outside or otherwise structurally separated.
- Following that a container should provide some ability to contain the initial flames / flares if something goes wrong – whether a simple LiPo charging bag, a brick / concrete bunker, or a purpose built fire / explosion proof cabinet. Combined with physical isolation this should be a significant contributor to avoiding the secondary fire catastrophes.
- The third attribute we desire in the ideal charging container is a way to manage / route the smoke out of any enclosed environment. This is both to relieve pressure and explosion risk (assuming a somewhat sealed container), and protect people and other items from the hot, corrosive atmosphere it creates.
In this section we simply aim to catalogue and explore different ways of achieving this. Again, we are not experts and raise these as thought starters. We also welcome contributions on other ideas.
